How long should a comic feel ashamed after a bad show?

The Sons of Discontent are often barraged with requests for advice on issues about bombing on stage. Our problem is that since neither one of us have ever had a bad show, we are uniquely ignorant on the topic. But that never stopped us from having an opinion, and this week we tackle the question:

How long should a comic feel ashamed after a bad show?

Johnny Mac: I think a comic has to have two perspectives and learn how to use them both. The first is: “I am God. Everything I say is gold. The audience can either profit by this, or be destroyed.” The second is: “Everything I am doing could be wrong.”

What if the Audience isn't "getting" you?

Here at the headquarters of the Sons of Discontent, Johnny Mac and Jim F’n Zarling get constantly bombarded with questions and requests for advice from amateur and professional comics, begging us for our expertise on topics ranging from instant hand sanitizer to the best restaurant on Hemlock Lane. But some of the questions are about comedy, and today we dig into a juicy one.
